October 1, 2025
Dear TAIP Members,

Tokyo's summer heat is behind us and the first month of school is already complete—which means it's time for our Fall Conference updates, recent Japan Times coverage, and more.

TAIP Annual Fall Conference: October 25, 2025

Supporting every child in your classroom requires practical tools, not just theory. This year's Fall Conference on October 25th brings together occupational therapists, speech pathologists, and experienced educators for a full day of hands-on strategies focused on inclusion at Aoba Japan International School's Bunkyo Campus.

Featured Keynote Speakers

Sayoko Hatano, Occupational Therapist
From Noticing to Action: Practical Tools to Support Child Development in Preschool

Preschool teachers' daily observations can be life-changing for both children and educators. This interactive workshop offers a clear, hands-on framework for spotting developmental and behavioral challenges early, knowing when to involve specialists, and applying simple, evidence-based tools to support every child.

Anissa Eckhoff, Speech Pathologist
Inclusion in Action - Practical Strategies for Every Child in the Classroom

In this interactive session where theory meets practice, we'll explore evidence-based strategies to support children presenting with a range of differences in early childhood classrooms. TAIP in The Japan Times

TAIP in The Japan Times

TAIP was recently featured in The Japan Times, highlighting our 20-year journey supporting international education for children in Tokyo and beyond. The article covered our evolution, professional development work, and the challenges facing international schools while showcasing TAIP's role as a community hub for educators dedicated to early childhood education.

We're encouraged to see The Japan Times expanding its coverage of international education in Japan, including hosting boarding school fairs this year for families exploring educational options abroad (details available at https://www.jtes.jp/).

Summer Workshop Highlights

This summer, TAIP hosted two online workshops that drew nearly 100 participants combined. In July, Wen Feri from Saint Alban's Nursery led a session on the importance of songs and circle time. In August, Allison Tong (Aoba-Japan International School), Emily Donkin (TIK International School), and Alice Madenokoji-Higg (Izumi International School) collaborated on a workshop covering early years essentials, including building routines, relationships and readiness. Thank you to all who participated and to our presenters for sharing their expertise with the TAIP community.

TAIP and You

This year marks TAIP's 20th anniversary. As educators, we spend most of our time focused on our students and our communities. This is your opportunity to reflect on your own journey - where you've grown as an educator, what you've learned, and how being part of this community has shaped your practice. Whether you've been with TAIP since the beginning or joined recently, we'd love to hear your story. Watch for the form launching on October 3 where you can share your reflection.
